Life at NIT Silchar : A Nostalgia
Hi, I'm Roll No. 13, a slow, lazy boy, a backbencher, and one of the naughtiest boys in our class. I belong to the 2018-22 batch and am currently working as a Software Engineer in an MNC.
Wait, let me introduce my roommate, Jigyanshu—a super lazy guy who bunked classes all the time, spending his days watching Netflix and Amazon Prime. Then there are my friends: Nepol, Bishwaraj, Jadu, Amit Bihari, Sika, Petla, Kankan, Farnaz, ID, and Chanuwala. Oh dear, I miss my friends a lot after joining the corporate world.
Now, let me start the story.

Now, let me start the story.
As a backbencher during college life, we were like the 3 Idiots—by the way, that's my favorite movie. NIT Silchar is a beautiful place, not just for its education but also for its natural beauty, unforgettable memories, and love. The college campus boasts over 25 lakes, making it one of the most eco-friendly campuses.
In our college, there were lots of lovebirds, though I failed in love because of the "high demands" of the girls. Back then, we had a total of 12 hostels. Our college offered facilities for B.Tech, M.Tech, General Masters, Ph.D., and research labs.
In B.Tech, there were six branches: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation. We were also proud to have one of India's largest digital libraries.
Our college celebrates three main festivals: Technoesis, the tech fest; Incandescence, the cultural fest; and Bihu, the holy festival of Assam. Apart from these three major festivals, there are several smaller festivals celebrated across the campus.
Now, the most awaited thing—Campus Placements:
- Computer Science, Electronics, and Instrumentation boast 100% placement.
- Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical have placement rates above 90%.
The research facilities at NIT Silchar are excellent, especially for CSE students—you won't be disappointed. Additionally, the NIRF ranking of the institute is impressive, adding to its reputation.

But, as we all know, an engineer knows everything apart from engineering. Agree? The food in the boys' hostels is a 3.5 out of 5. However, some items are really good in certain hostels, while in others, the quality is not as great.

One more thing, dear reader: please update in the comments section if there are any new additions or changes to our college!Seniors at NIT Silchar are generally good and helpful, but it's best not to annoy them without a reason.

NIT Silchar Memories
In the hills of Assam, where the lakes lie still, Stands NIT Silchar, memories to fill.
A haven of dreams, where life took flight,
Through days of toil and sleepless nights.
The classrooms buzzed, the hostels roared,
A journey of learning we all adored.
Backbench laughs and whispered glee,
Our little escapes to feel so free.
Love blossomed in corners, beneath the skies,
In fleeting glances and hopeful sighs.
But heartbreaks too, came to our door,
Teaching us lessons we couldn't ignore.
Friends became family, bonds so tight,
Through hostel nights and festival light.
Technoesis, Incandescence, and Bihu's cheer,
Every celebration drew us near.
The mess food debates, the chai at the stall,
The walks by the lakes, we cherished it all.
Exams, submissions, and placement dreams,
Life unfolded like a flowing stream.
Now, as we part, the memories stay,
Of love, of laughter, of every day.
NIT Silchar, you're more than a place,
You're a chapter of life we can never replace.
Wait, my friend, the story hasn’t ended yet. My friend Nepol had quite an eventful life—he had many girlfriends and plenty of "dirty" stories of wild nights and fun-filled escapades. But there was a time when he was genuinely serious about a girl. Unfortunately, she loved him only for his notes and help in getting good marks in exams. Behind his back, she was in love with someone else, playing with Nepol's emotions. It was a heartbreaking moment for him.
But don’t worry—Nepol bounced back! He now has a girlfriend, and they’re getting married soon.
Then there’s my Bihari friend Amit, who seemed to live in his own world. Though he had a crush, he spent most of his time away from classes, indulging in nashewazi all day.
As for me and my friend circle, we were a crazy bunch. By the last semester, we decided to do everything we’d missed—roaming the campus all night, drinking, dancing, hitting the bars—everything! Oh my god, those memories are unforgettable.

Nowadays, we sometimes catch up over group video calls. We try to meet every year, but somehow, it never happens. After college, I’ve traveled to many places, but sadly, I haven’t been able to travel with them yet. Still, they remain my good friends—my kamina friends, my buddies.
As Roll No. 13, I’d like to conclude this story with the words of a famous song:
"Memories bring back, memories bring back you."
I’ll return soon with more memorable stories to share.
